Prairie Woodworks was founded by Ron Skidmore and Steve Stenger in 1976. In June of 2017, the business was purchased by Ross Ambuehl, a 15-year employee, he alongside a talented group of men and women lead the company into the next generation. We currently employ 8 people. Our specialties include cabinets, furniture, millwork, stairways, kitchen and bath, entertainment centers, and bars and wine cellars. From the drawing board to fabrication to finishing to complete installation, we’ve got you covered!
The many projects successfully completed by Prairie Woodworks in the past years are quite varied in scale and type. Commissions have ranged from residential/historical and commercial work to projects for the business and professional community. Residential/historical projects have included custom designed furniture, reproduction furniture, built-in cabinets, stairs and railings, a variety of architectural millwork, and restoration work of all kinds. Commercial clients have had Prairie Woodworks custom design and build entry doors, reception counters, displays and restaurant fixtures. For business and professional offices, Prairie Woodworks has designed and built desks, conference tables, secretary stations, and custom storage units. Our craftsmen have years of experience in wood finishing, matching stains, and custom finishes.

In addition to experience, talent and a well-equipped 10,000 square footage shop, Prairie Woodworks offers its customers complete design services. Beginning with a sketch or an idea, designs are reviewed and modified until approved by the customer. The designs are then built with the highest quality materials and exacting attention to craftmanship and detail. Prairie Woodworks has successfully fused the technology of today with traditional woodcraft of days gone by, always striving for a finished product in which they and their customer can take pride in.
